Cabaret Curtains Card with Chalkboard Effect

Create a striking card using the Cabaret curtains embossing folder on black card, then highlight with white ink to create a chalkboard effect. The curtain design frames any sentiment or image beautifully and works across multiple occasions.

Step by step

1. Place black card stock into the Cabaret embossing folder. ▶ watch 52:00
2. Run the black card and folder through your machine. ▶ watch 52:15
3. Open the folder and observe that the embossed design is not immediately visible on the black card. ▶ watch 52:30
4. Take a white ink pad and tap or swipe it across the embossed design to bring out the raised detail and create a chalkboard effect. ▶ watch 53:00
5. Continue applying white ink to highlight the curtain pleats, canopy, and ribbon details. ▶ watch 53:30
6. Optional: Use a white gel pen to add extra detail to specific lines such as the pleats or canopy for additional dimension. ▶ watch 54:00
7. Mount the embossed and inked card onto a card blank. ▶ watch 54:30
8. Add your chosen sentiment or image in the centre of the curtain frame. ▶ watch 55:00

Tips from the show

• The Cabaret curtain design can frame anything—a stamped sentiment, verse, lyrics, flowers, or a bride and groom image.
• You can use a gold ink pad or gold gilding wax instead of white for a different effect.
• If you feel you've applied too much ink, you can cut away the excess or recut and layer the design on top for a cleaner look.
