Watercoloured Magnolia Card with Gradient Background

A project from our live show CREATE AND CRAFT TV - Join Toni for her brand new SBM launch - broadcast 11th March 2024 · 11/03/2024 · watch it from 49:00

A stunning card featuring a hot-foiled magnolia design from the Botanicals book, painted with watercolour pen markers and surrounded by a soft gradient wash background. The foiling acts as a resist, creating an elegant, professional-looking card with atmospheric colour effects.

Step by step

  1. Tear out or leave the magnolia design in the book, depending on your preference. ▶ watch 49:15
  2. Dampen a large brush (size 14) with clean water and paint around the entire design, leaving the magnolia itself dry. ▶ watch 50:00

  4. Drop the concentrated colour into the wet area around the design and watch it bloom and spread naturally. ▶ watch 51:15
  5. Use a wet brush to drag and blend the colour outwards, creating a soft halo effect around the magnolia. ▶ watch 51:30
  6. Allow the background wash to dry completely, then add colour to individual petals if desired. ▶ watch 52:00
  7. Dampen a petal with clean water and tap an ink pad (such as pink) onto it, then drag the colour outward with a wet brush. ▶ watch 53:30
  8. Leave small areas of white space within the petals to create dimension and a more realistic appearance. ▶ watch 54:00
  9. Allow the finished design to dry completely before mounting onto a card base if desired. ▶ watch 54:15
