Inked Embossing Folder Background with Metallic Accents

Create a vibrant background by inking the embossing folder directly and running card through it, then enhance with metallic ink swipes. This technique produces a spontaneous, artistic background perfect for layering embellishments on top.

Step by step

1. Remove the die from the embossing folder by gently peeling back the low-tack tape. ▶ watch 50:00
2. Swipe various watercolour ink colours directly onto the embossing folder surface in random areas. ▶ watch 50:15
3. Add orange, pink and purple inks to create a multi-coloured effect. ▶ watch 50:30
4. Spray the inked folder lightly with water to help blend the colours. ▶ watch 50:45
5. Place white card stock onto the inked embossing folder. ▶ watch 51:00
6. Run the card and folder through your die-cutting machine to transfer the inked design and emboss detail onto the card. ▶ watch 51:15
7. Remove the card and allow the ink to dry completely. ▶ watch 51:30
8. Once dry, swipe metallic ink pads lightly over the embossed areas to add gold or silver highlights. ▶ watch 51:45

Tips from the show

• Don't worry if you use too much water; the embossing folder technique is forgiving and creates beautiful effects even with spontaneous application.
• You can spot off any unwanted ink lines with your finger for a cleaner look, or leave them for a more artistic effect depending on your preference.
