Whispering Leaves Layered Watercolour Card with Embossed Sentiment

Create a beautiful layered leaf card using the Whispering Leaves stencil and stamp set with multiple ink colours to achieve a transparent, watercolour effect. The design features ombré leaves with artistic splat details and an embossed sentiment, giving a professional, ethereal look.

Step by step

1. Line up the first layering stencil (numbered 1) with the edge of your white card stock to ensure all stencils align to the same position. ▶ watch 34:00
2. Apply yellow ink through the first stencil using a sponge or brush, creating a base colour wash. ▶ watch 35:15
3. Position the second numbered stencil (2) in the same alignment and apply pink ink, layering it over the yellow to create depth. ▶ watch 36:15
4. Apply the third stencil layer with a different colour, building up the transparent watercolour effect by overlaying the stencils. ▶ watch 37:30
5. Create an ombré effect by applying darker ink at one end of the leaf shape and gradually blending to lighter colour towards the top. ▶ watch 38:45
6. Use the splat stencil to add artistic splatter details across the design, positioning it in different areas to create visual interest. ▶ watch 40:00
7. Stamp the leaf image onto the card using black ink, positioning it to complement your stencilled background. ▶ watch 46:00
8. Apply sticky embossing ink pad to your chosen sentiment die and stamp it onto the card. ▶ watch 47:00
9. Sprinkle coloured embossing powder (such as popping pink) over the wet embossing ink. ▶ watch 50:30
10. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat gun until it becomes shiny and fused to the card. ▶ watch 50:45

Tips from the show

• Use an antistatic bag to remove moisture from your card before embossing to prevent powder from sticking to unwanted areas.
• You do not have to use the stamp element; you can create beautiful designs using just the stencils.
• Experiment with different colour combinations as you will get a different look every time you layer the stencils.
