Embossed Tree Card with Mixed Metallic Wax and Ink Swipe

Emboss a tree design onto white card stock, then add depth by layering gilding waxes in multiple colours and finishing with a black ink pad swipe technique. This creates a sophisticated mixed-media effect with both raised and flat colour elements.

Step by step

1. Place white card stock into your embossing machine with the tree embossing folder. ▶ watch 41:30
2. Run the card through the machine to create a raised embossed tree design. ▶ watch 41:45
3. Open a pot of turquoise gilding wax and apply it to the embossed tree using light finger taps. ▶ watch 42:30
4. Observe how the turquoise shows beautifully on the white card stock. ▶ watch 43:00
5. Select copper gilding wax and apply it to the back or edges of the embossed design. ▶ watch 44:30
6. Lightly spray the card with water to create a distressed, mixed-media background effect. ▶ watch 45:00
7. Tap a black ink pad across the embossed card in a swiping motion to pick up all the raised details. ▶ watch 57:30
8. Run the card through your embossing machine to set the ink and reveal the full effect. ▶ watch 58:15

Tips from the show

• The turquoise and other darker waxes show up beautifully on white card, not just on black.
• When swiping with black ink, you're picking up the texture of the embossed design—this creates a dramatic contrast.
• You can layer gilding wax colours and then go over them with ink for even more dimension.
