Step by step

  1. Cut a piece of watercolour card stock to your desired size, or use a partial piece if preferred. ▶ watch 24:30
  2. Place your card stock on a mat and position stencil number one (the first poppy layer) on top. ▶ watch 25:00
  3. Apply red ink pad to stencil number one using a pouncing motion, pressing the ink pad firmly onto the stencil. ▶ watch 26:30
  4. Lightly spray the inked area with water using a spray bottle to create a blended, watercolour effect. ▶ watch 27:00
  5. Remove stencil number one and position stencil number two (the next petal layer) on top, aligning it carefully. ▶ watch 27:30
  6. Apply red ink to stencil number two using a gentle pouncing technique to avoid dragging the delicate veins. ▶ watch 28:00
  7. Spray this layer lightly with water and allow the ink to bleed and blend naturally on the card. ▶ watch 28:30
  8. Position stencil number three and apply red ink with a firmer press to create darker tones; optionally add blue ink on top to create a deep burgundy colour. ▶ watch 29:00
  9. Apply stencil number four for additional detail, pressing firmly and tapping the ink pad to ensure colour reaches the detailed centre areas. ▶ watch 30:00
  10. Use a light green ink to add the stem and bud, spraying lightly with water for a soft effect. ▶ watch 31:00
  11. Apply the green detail stencil to add darker shading to the stem, optionally adding blue ink to create depth. ▶ watch 37:00
  12. Position the centre stencil (found in the top corner of stencil four) and apply black ink to add the poppy centres, aligning carefully with the petals. ▶ watch 42:30
