Step by step

  1. Prepare a fresh piece of watercolour card, using the reverse side if you have already stamped the other side. ▶ watch 39:00
  2. Apply multiple ink colours to the solid cake stamp using the corner of the ink pad, using teal, pink, orange and purple to create a multicoloured effect. ▶ watch 40:00
  3. Ensure the entire stamp surface is covered with colour, even if the application appears random. ▶ watch 40:30
  4. Spray the stamped image three times with water to activate and blend the multiple ink colours together. ▶ watch 40:45
  5. Allow the card to settle for a moment, then blot away any excess water puddles with a dry wipe. ▶ watch 41:00
  6. Align the detail stamp over the solid cake image using the packet as a visual guide for correct positioning. ▶ watch 42:30
  7. Stamp the detail layer in teal ink, pressing firmly to reveal the decorative elements such as the flowers and beads around the cake. ▶ watch 43:15
  8. If detail is not sufficiently visible, stamp the detail layer a second time in a different colour for increased contrast. ▶ watch 44:00
  9. Paint a heather-coloured shadow around the base of the cake, extending it further around to make the cake appear grounded and flat rather than tilting. ▶ watch 44:30
  10. Trim the card to size, removing any excess paper from the bottom edge. ▶ watch 46:00
  11. Edge the card with an ink pad by tilting it gently to create a subtle border line without making a harsh mark. ▶ watch 47:00
  12. Adhere the stamped panel to the card blank using glue or tape. ▶ watch 47:45
