Embossing Folder with Inked Edges Technique

Discover an alternative technique for colouring embossing folders by inking the edges and re-embossing. This method creates bold colour around the design whilst maintaining the raised and recessed detail.

Step by step

1. Take your embossing folder design (previously watercoloured or plain) and place it back into the embossing folder. ▶ watch 40:15
2. Swipe an ink pad around the edges of the design on the raised side of the embossing folder. ▶ watch 40:30
3. Lightly spray the inked design with water to help the colour disperse. ▶ watch 41:00
4. Line the cardstock back up carefully in the embossing folder, ensuring it slots into place correctly. ▶ watch 41:30
5. Run the design through the embossing machine again to set the ink and enhance the embossed detail. ▶ watch 42:00
6. Once dry, you can add further layers of colour by repeating the inking and embossing process with different ink pad colours. ▶ watch 43:00

Tips from the show

• Use a light spray of water rather than soaking the design to avoid over-saturating the cardstock.
• If you have applied gilding wax to the design, the oil-based wax will resist the ink, creating an interesting layered effect.
