Moody Reflection Background with Spatter

Build a textured, atmospheric background using multiple ink colours and water spray, then add spatter for visual interest. This creates a moody, layered effect perfect for Halloween or dramatic designs.

Step by step

1. Place a white cardstock piece on a glass mat. ▶ watch 17:45
2. Spray the card with water to create a wet surface. ▶ watch 18:00
3. Drop purple ink onto the wet card and let it spread naturally. ▶ watch 18:15
4. Add pink ink to different areas of the card, allowing the colours to blend where they meet. ▶ watch 18:30
5. Add blue ink to create depth and a moody tone. ▶ watch 19:00
6. Flick your fingers through one of the ink colours to create spatter texture across the card. ▶ watch 19:30
7. Set the card aside to dry completely before using it as a background for stamped images. ▶ watch 20:00

Tips from the show

• Don't wear a white blouse when spattering ink.
• White spaces in your background are fine—reflections are never perfect.
• You can use a brush instead of your fingers to create spatter if you prefer.
