Triple Embossed Heart Card with Mixed Metallics

A square card featuring a heart embossed through a die-cutting machine using a stencil, then enhanced with sticky ink and multiple layers of metallic embossing powder in gold, silver, bronze and pink for a raised, glittery paste-like effect. A white panel hides the stencil line and frames the design beautifully.

Step by step

1. Place a card blank underneath your white card on the die-cutting mat as a shim. This will help the stencil emboss properly through the die-cutting machine. ▶ watch 3:15
2. 

   Position your heart stencil on top of the kraft card. Run the card and stencil through the die-cutting machine without forcing it to emboss the heart design.

3. Open the card to reveal the embossed heart detail that has transferred through from the stencil on the front panel. ▶ watch 5:15
4. Die-cut three hearts in different sizes: one from plain vellum, one from gold glitter card, and one from white card. ▶ watch 6:00
5. Die-cut your chosen sentiment word from white card stock. ▶ watch 8:45
6. 

   Place the stencil back over the embossed heart detail on your card, aligning it carefully with the embossed pattern.

   Using a sticky ink pad, gently dab over the raised embossed snowflake design to ink the raised areas. Work carefully to ensure even coverage across the embossed pattern.

8. 

   Sprinkle gold embossing powder onto the sticky embossing ink on your card. Shake off the excess powder onto a separate piece of paper to reveal the embossed design with gold glitter and stars.

9. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat gun until it's fully melted and shiny. ▶ watch 14:30
10. Cut a white panel to place horizontally across the centre of your card to hide the stencil line. ▶ watch 17:30
11. Glue the white panel down the centre, then layer your Vellum heart, gold heart, and sentiment word on top. ▶ watch 19:00
12. Add sequins around the design if desired, then display your finished card. ▶ watch 23:00

Tips from the show

• Never force anything through your die-cutting machine; use shims (extra card layers) to help stencils emboss without jamming.
• The salt and pepper technique of sprinkling embossing powder creates a mixed, distressed look that catches the light beautifully.
• Use the sticky ink pad on the raised embossed detail to create a double or triple emboss effect similar to glitter paste.
