Rainbow Hexagon Stencil Card with Bee Embellishment

Create a striking square card using a hexagon stencil with rainbow distress inks and a water bleaching effect. The design features a layered bee die-cut embellishment and an inspirational sentiment stamp, perfect for a celebration card.

Step by step

1. Prepare a square card base with a black matted layer and a white card stock piece. ▶ watch 2:15
2. Position the hexagon stencil on the white card stock, centring it as best you can. ▶ watch 2:30
3. Apply distress inks through the stencil in rainbow colours: pink, green, yellow, and purple, using a brush and ink pad. ▶ watch 2:45
4. Spray the stencilled area with water to create a bleaching effect that lifts and blends the colours. ▶ watch 4:45
5. Remove excess water with tissue and dry the card with a heat gun to intensify the bleaching effect. ▶ watch 5:30
6. Position the inner hexagon stencil on top and add light yellow detail with a dry brush in the corners for texture. ▶ watch 6:15
7. Die-cut a large bee from black card stock using a cutting machine, running it through twice if needed for clean cuts. ▶ watch 7:30
8. Adhere the die-cut bee to the stencilled card front. ▶ watch 9:45
9. Stamp the sentiment 'sometimes there are not enough words to capture the essence of a truly thankful heart...' in black ink onto white card stock. ▶ watch 10:15
10. Layer the white card with the stamped sentiment onto the black matted layer. ▶ watch 12:00
11. Adhere the stencilled hexagon piece and bee to the layered card base. ▶ watch 12:30
12. Add sequins or sparkle embellishments to finish the card. ▶ watch 13:15

Tips from the show

• The card stock used is not ideal for stencilling, but the bleaching effect helps disguise any imperfections.
• You can add metallic or confetti inks to bring back the honeycomb effect if desired.
• Don't worry about colour bleed under the stencil as it will look fabulous once the effect is complete.
