Step by step

  1. Lay the first numbered stencil (marked '1') on your card stock, aligning it with the edge of the card. ▶ watch 42:15
  2. Apply ink through the stencil using a light hand with your chosen colour (e.g. purple). ▶ watch 42:30
  3. Remove the stencil and allow the ink to dry slightly. ▶ watch 42:45
  4. Position stencil number 2 on top of the previous layer, aligning carefully with the design. ▶ watch 43:00
  5. Apply a slightly darker shade or press harder with the same colour to build dimension. ▶ watch 43:15
  6. Continue through stencils 3, 4 and 5 in sequence, gradually building colour depth and detail. ▶ watch 43:45
  7. For the final stencil layer, apply your darkest colour to create shadow and definition. ▶ watch 44:30
  8. Optionally, lightly spray the finished design with water to create a blended, watercoloured effect. ▶ watch 50:00
  9. If spraying causes loss of detail, reposition the final stencil and reapply ink to restore definition. ▶ watch 50:30
  10. Once dry, use the coordinating die to cut out the design, or leave as a stencilled background. ▶ watch 51:00
