Layered Inky Background Card with Die-Cut Flower

Combine two handmade inky backgrounds—a coloured cellophane transfer and a textured gold panel—layered onto black card, then topped with a detailed rose die-cut and washi tape sentiment for a finished card.

You will need

Step by step

  1. Trim your first inky background (the coloured cellophane transfer) to a neat rectangular panel. ▶ watch 26:00
  2. Trim your second inky background (the gold textured panel) to a smaller rectangular panel. ▶ watch 26:30
  3. Cut a piece of black card stock to use as a mounting layer. ▶ watch 27:00
  4. Glue the coloured panel onto the black card with a thin border of black showing around the edges. ▶ watch 27:30
  5. Trim the black-backed panel to size and position it on your card blank. ▶ watch 28:00
  6. Glue the gold textured panel in the centre of the card. ▶ watch 28:30
  7. Place the detailed rose die onto card stock with a support layer underneath in your cutting machine. ▶ watch 32:00
  8. Run the die through the cutting machine to cut out the rose. ▶ watch 32:30
  9. Brush out the die-cut with a small brush tool to help release the pieces. ▶ watch 34:30
  10. Use a pokey tool to pop out the detailed pieces from the die-cut rose. ▶ watch 35:00
  11. Trim any excess or torn pieces from the rose die-cut as needed. ▶ watch 36:00
  12. Apply glue to select areas of the rose and position it on the card, using an acrylic block to hold it whilst the glue sets. ▶ watch 38:15
  13. Trim a piece of washi tape to size and adhere it to the card as a sentiment strip. ▶ watch 39:15
