Embossed Sentiment with Watercolour Accents

Create a card featuring a heat-embossed floral image with hand-painted watercolour details added to specific elements. This technique combines the precision of heat embossing with the organic, artistic quality of watercolour painting.

Step by step

1. Prepare your cardstock with an anti-static bag to prevent moisture interference. ▶ watch 24:30
2. Ink the large floral flourish stamp with clear sticky ink pad and stamp onto white cardstock. ▶ watch 24:45
3. Sprinkle rose gold embossing powder over the entire stamped image. ▶ watch 25:00
4. Heat set the embossing powder using a heat gun, moving it quickly to avoid warping. ▶ watch 25:15
5. Use watercolour paints or ink sprays to add colour to specific areas within the embossed design, such as the flower centres or leaves. ▶ watch 25:45
6. Mount the finished embossed and painted image onto a contrasting card base. ▶ watch 26:15

Tips from the show

• The embossed areas create a resist, so watercolour will sit on top rather than soak in, giving you more control.
• You can use the same embossing powder colour on different coloured cardstock bases for different effects.
