Watercoloured Butterfly Embellishments

Cut butterfly die shapes from watercolour cardstock and paint them with coordinating ink sprays to create dimensional, hand-painted embellishments. The soft watercolour finish adds texture and movement to your card design.

Step by step

1. Cut two butterfly shapes from watercolour cardstock using the butterfly die. ▶ watch 15:30
2. Activate the purple ink spray by swirling it to wake up the mica content, then dip the first butterfly into the colour. ▶ watch 15:45
3. Add more colour to the butterfly by dipping it again, then spray lightly with water to help the colour blend and spread. ▶ watch 16:00
4. Activate the orange ink spray and dip the second butterfly into this colour for variety. ▶ watch 16:15
5. Layer one butterfly inside the other by gluing them together to create dimension. ▶ watch 16:30
6. Mount the layered butterfly onto your card base using glue. ▶ watch 17:00

Tips from the show

• Keep your colour palette coordinated by using the same ink spray colours throughout your design.
• Layering the butterflies together creates a 3D effect that makes the embellishment stand out from the card.
