Geometric Stencil Background Card with Stamped Sentiment

A clean and simple card featuring a geometric repeating pattern created with a stencil and distress ink, layered with a stamped sentiment in a solid block. The design creates an instant focal point with a modern, graphic aesthetic.

Step by step

1. Find the centre of your card and mark it lightly with a pencil to help with alignment. ▶ watch 10:30
2. Place the geometric stencil on your card, lining up the corners with your pencil mark. ▶ watch 10:30
3. Use masking tape to mask off any extra elements around the stencil to prevent accidental inking. ▶ watch 10:30
4. Apply distress ink through the stencil using a sponge or blending brush, working from the centre outward. ▶ watch 10:30
5. Once the first section is inked, line up the stencil pattern to fill additional areas of the card. ▶ watch 16:30
6. Stamp one of the sentiment stamps from the bundle onto the card in a contrasting colour. ▶ watch 17:45
7. Fussy cut out any small detail elements (such as leaves) from pre-inked and stamped paper if desired. ▶ watch 19:30
8. Adhere the cut-out detail to the card using foam adhesive for dimension. ▶ watch 21:00

Tips from the show

• If you don't get a good impression with solid stamps, wipe the stamp with a versamark ink pad to remove cleaning residue, then try again.
• The stencil pattern is broken, allowing you to use different mediums in different sections—ink in one area, texture paste in another.
• You can use the stencil partially to fill three-quarters of a card rather than the whole background.
