Black Magic Technique Coloured Hearts

A quick technique demonstration showing how to stamp with white ink on black card and then colour over the top with pencils. The white ink creates a resist that allows vibrant colours to show while leaving a subtle white halo.

Step by step

1. Stamp the heart design using white ink onto black card. ▶ watch 27:30
2. Allow the white ink to dry completely, either by setting it aside or blasting it with a heat gun. ▶ watch 28:45
3. Colour over the white stamped design using coloured pencils in your chosen colours. ▶ watch 31:30
4. Leave a subtle white halo around the coloured areas for an effective finish. ▶ watch 32:00

Tips from the show

• Make sure your white ink is absolutely dry before colouring over it with pencils.
• The white ink is so opaque that it creates excellent coverage for the black magic technique.
