A project from our live show CATCH UP with the Create Together Club - Inspiration Video 3 for Stamp A NOTE TO SAY - SHOW 27th Oct 21 · 27/10/2021
A modern kaleidoscope-style card created using the spotlight stamping technique with offset layering and watercolour painting. Each layer is stamped with the same design but painted in different colours, then offset to create a dynamic, symmetrical pattern.
Prepare four pieces of white cardstock in different sizes with matte and layers to create your layered base.
Position the four pieces on your card base in an offset pattern, placing them in different corners rather than symmetrically.
Secure the pieces with low-tack tape to prevent them from moving whilst you stamp.
Ink up your stamp and press firmly onto the first layered piece, ensuring the design reaches into all the crevices.
Repeat the stamping process on all four pieces, pressing down with body weight to transfer the full design.
Heat set all the stamped pieces with a heat gun to dry the ink.
Paint the first stamped piece with watercolour in a tealy blue colour around the edges of the design.
Paint the second piece in pink watercolour, covering the stamped areas with colour.
Paint the third piece in coral or orange watercolour, again focusing on the stamped design areas.
Leave the fourth piece unpainted or paint it in a contrasting colour.
Once the watercolour is dry, begin layering the pieces onto your card base, starting with the first painted piece.
Layer the remaining pieces on top, offsetting them slightly so the designs marry up and create the kaleidoscope effect.
Use a fine-liner pen to add any missing stamped details or shadows where the design hasn't transferred clearly.
Stamp a sentiment such as 'Congratulations' across the base of the card in black ink to complete the design.
