Washi Tape Patterned Background with For You Die-Cut Card

A project from our live show CATCH UP with Toni for a FRIDAY LAUNCH in the HTCN studio broadcast 26th Nov 21 · 26/11/2021 · watch it from 27:30

Create a layered card using pre-cut washi tape strips to build a colourful patterned background, then die-cut the word 'For You' through the design. The result is a clean, modern card with hidden dimension where the die-cut word reveals the pattern beneath.

Step by step

  1. Gather your white cardstock base and select pre-cut washi tape strips in coordinating colours. ▶ watch 27:45
  2. Arrange the washi tape strips across your cardstock, layering them to create a patterned background with some white space showing through. ▶ watch 28:00
  3. Glue each washi tape strip down securely using craft glue. ▶ watch 28:30
  4. Trim away any excess washi tape that extends beyond the card edges. ▶ watch 29:00
  5. Position your For You die on the card, deciding whether you want the word at the bottom, middle or top. ▶ watch 35:30
  6. Secure the card with tape to prevent movement during die-cutting. ▶ watch 36:00
  7. Run the card through your die-cutting machine twice to ensure a clean cut through the layered washi and cardstock. ▶ watch 36:30
  8. Remove the die and carefully peel away the cut-out word to reveal the patterned background beneath. ▶ watch 37:15
  9. Paper piece the cut-out letters back into the opening, raising them on foam pads to create a hidden message effect. ▶ watch 41:00
  10. Add a small embellishment such as a dragonfly to one corner for dimension. ▶ watch 45:30
