A project from our live show CATCH UP with Simon for MONDAY MADNESS in the HTCN studio broadcast 24 Jan 22 · 24/01/2022 · watch it from 2:45

Step by step

  1. Die-cut the stylish scales pattern from your card stock using the full-size die. ▶ watch 3:15
  2. Score lines down both sides of the centre panel using a scoreboard, positioning them at the edges to create a frame. ▶ watch 5:15
  3. Crease and fold the scored lines inward to create an archway effect, using a bone folder for crisp edges. ▶ watch 6:00
  4. Apply double-sided tape to both folded edges to prepare for assembly. ▶ watch 6:45
  5. Create a watercolour background by inking three ink pads (yellow, green, and blue) onto a separate card panel. ▶ watch 7:30
  6. Spritz the inked panel with water and blend the colours together, adding more ink as needed for depth. ▶ watch 8:15
  7. Dry the background panel with a heat gun to set the colours and prevent curling. ▶ watch 9:00
  8. Stamp the hook sentiment and 'catch you later' text onto the background panel using black ink. ▶ watch 10:15
  9. Stamp the shark image onto white card and colour it with watercolours, adding orange to the belly, blue to the back, and details to the eyes and gills. ▶ watch 11:45
  10. Carefully cut out the coloured shark with scissors, leaving a white border around it. ▶ watch 15:45
  11. Snip away sections of the scales die-cut to create the illusion of the shark and hook tearing through the net. ▶ watch 17:15
  12. Secure the folded archway panel to the background using the pre-applied double-sided tape. ▶ watch 19:45
  13. Use a stencil to add wave details to the white edges of the card base with ink. ▶ watch 20:45
  14. Apply double-sided tape to the back of the assembled panel and attach it to a blank card. ▶ watch 22:00
  15. Mount the coloured shark on a foam pad and position it within the torn net opening. ▶ watch 23:30
