Textured Crumpled Background Card

Use a crumpled texture stamp with watercolour paint to create a layered, organic background. The random dabbing technique creates an imperfect, artistic look that celebrates the beauty of mixed media.

You will need

Step by step

1. Dampen your card base with water using a spray bottle. ▶ watch 16:45
2. Pick up watercolour paint on a wet brush and dab it randomly across the card without using a stamp block. ▶ watch 17:00
3. Use the crumpled texture stamp with a blue watercolour to add pattern and texture to the background. ▶ watch 17:15

Tips from the show

• Don't put the stamp on a block—just dab it in randomly for a more organic effect.
• If you overthink it, you'll end up overworking the piece, so just go for it.
