Watercolour Floral Card with Lamination Technique

A project from our live show STUDIO 3 - CREATE AND CRAFT PRODUCT PREVIEW - Join Toni for her latest launch - Broadcast 12th June 22 · 12/06/2022 · watch it from 33:30

Create a realistic painted floral design using the lamination stamp technique. You stamp a solid coloured portion, add watercolour inks in complementary colours, spray with water to let the colours bleed together, then stamp the detailed outline to bring the artwork to life.

Step by step

  1. Prepare a piece of watercolour card stock as your base. ▶ watch 33:30
  2. Stamp the solid portion of the lamination stamp onto your card using the coloured ink pad. ▶ watch 34:00
  3. Select complementary ink pad colours (pinks, oranges, greens) that work well together from the same colour family. ▶ watch 34:30
  4. Apply the first colour to the flower petals by tapping the ink pad directly onto the stamped area. ▶ watch 35:00
  5. Add a second colour (orange or yellow) to the centre of the flowers for contrast and depth. ▶ watch 35:30
  6. Apply green ink around the base and throughout the foliage area, using the side of the ink pad for variation in tone. ▶ watch 36:00
  7. Lightly spray the inked stamp with water to encourage the colours to bleed and blend together. ▶ watch 36:30
  8. Press the stamp firmly onto the watercolour card and hold for a moment to allow the ink to transfer and bleed. ▶ watch 37:00
  9. Lift the stamp carefully to reveal the blended, watercolour effect. ▶ watch 37:30
  10. Clean the stamp thoroughly with tissue and water. ▶ watch 38:00
  11. Stamp the detailed outline portion of the same stamp in black ink (or grey for a pencil sketch effect) over the coloured area to complete the design. ▶ watch 38:30
