Step by step

  1. Prepare a black card base with grey and black layered mats. ▶ watch 19:30
  2. Gather a thin block and the black oxide ink pad. ▶ watch 20:00
  3. Ink the block with black oxide, creating an ombré effect by tapping the block repeatedly to make the ink darker at the bottom and lighter at the top. ▶ watch 20:15
  4. Stamp the inked block onto the centre panel of your card. ▶ watch 20:45
  5. Spray the stamped area lightly with water and let the card drink in the water and ink to create a puddle effect. ▶ watch 21:00
  6. Peel away the block to reveal the textured puddle impression. ▶ watch 21:15
  7. Re-ink the block with fresh oxide ink and repeat the stamping and spraying process on the right-hand panel. ▶ watch 21:30
  8. For the third panel, use less water spray to create a different texture variation. ▶ watch 22:00
  9. Use the excess ink remaining on the block to spot in between the panels, adding intentional marks to make any wonky areas look purposeful. ▶ watch 23:00
  10. Add a sentiment using washi tape tickers to complete the card. ▶ watch 24:00
